This summer, the Norwegian artist Tulle Ruth opens a Walk ‘n’ Bike-In sound gallery outside the Nordic House. The outdoors installation can be visited from the 20th of June.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Walk ‘n’ Bike-In<\/strong> is a new version of Tulle Ruth’s project Drive-In of Sound Art<\/strong> which was first launched\u00a0in 2013 in a rural district in R\u00e5de, \u00d8stfold in Norway, where plenty of cars pass by during the summer. At first, Tulle Ruth started a minor contemporary art gallery there and thought she would get plenty of visitors. However, the car drivers wouldn’t bother to stop and have a look. The idea occurred to develop the very first Drive-In of Sound Art next to the road. The driver could easily access the gallery by placing the car along the Drive-In, open the window and listen to some of the most profiled sound artists and in this way experience the trip, sounds and landscape in new ways.<\/p>\n

The project now celebrates a 5-year anniversary and has undergone several developments. Today there are two different Drive-In’s touring Norway and the Nordic Drive-In of Sound Art. The Nordic tour started out in Rebild, DK, and continued to Kartfjord, Lofoten before reaching Reykjavik. At each new location, the Drive-In appears in a new sculptural form relating to local context and history, and new artists are invited in each time.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the fruitful collaboration with the Nordic House, the concept was transformed to a Walk ‘n’ Bike-In sound gallery<\/strong>. The artists featuring are\u00a0Maia Urstad, Siri Austeen, Tine Surel Lange <\/strong>and Luca Forcucci <\/strong>(NO), Trine Hylander Friis, Flopper, Ane \u00d8stergaard <\/strong>(DK), Joonas Siren <\/strong>(FI), Anna Hedberg, Signe Liden <\/strong>(SE), Thurid Jonsdottir,<\/strong>\u00a0Hafd\u00eds Bjarnad\u00f3ttir <\/strong>and\u00a0Konrad Korabiewski <\/strong>(IS).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tulle Ruth<\/strong> lives and works in Norway. Her practice can be described as sculpture in a very broad sense. She has her artistic training from Sweden, Norway, Canada and Denmark and has exhibited in many places in Norway and abroad.<\/p>\n

Her sculptures are often mobile and located at more or less unknown<\/em> sites in public spaces and in nature. The artist is mostly concerned with communication, ecology and feminism. Out from the personal, domestic and everyday life, Tulle Ruth asks questions about life and society surrounding her. Her artistic platform was shaped through the extended project Speaking Mountains which enabled the 7 famous mountains surrounding Bergen to speak and create stories. In an investigating and experimenting manner, “high and low” techniques were integrated. Tulle Ruth always works independently from added energy instead of using sun and wind power. Her art is often infused with humour.<\/p>\n

The Drive-In of Sound Art since its start in 2013 has so far presented 50 Nordic and international contemporary sound artists.<\/p>\n
