Elections in Greenland<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Open seminar hosted by The Centre for Arctic Policy Studies and the Nordic Region in Focus, Thursday April 12th from 12:00 \u2013 13:15 in the Nordic House<\/p>\n

On 24 April Greenland will elect a new parliament. In this seminar three experts in Greenlandic affairs we will discuss the importance of the elections and resent political developments in Greenland.<\/p>\n

Greenland: when geopolitics took over politics<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Damien Degeorges<\/strong> is a Reykjav\u00edk-based consultant who has been following Greenlandic affairs for more than 15 years. He was also a freelance correspondent for the Greenlandic newspaper Atuagagdliutit\/Gr\u00f8nlandsposten<\/em> and taught international politics at the University of Greenland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    What are the elections about?<\/strong><\/p>\n

    • Unnur Br\u00e1 Konr\u00e1\u00f0sd\u00f3ttir <\/strong>was a member of the Icelandic parliament from 2009 – 2017, for the Independence Party. She was elected President of the Parliament in 2017 and was chairman of the West Nordic Council of Iceland 2013-2016. Unnur Br\u00e1 was recently appointed by the prime minister as an assistant to the government in charge of the constitutional review.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The importance of the election and the next generation\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

      • Tukumminnguaq\u00a0Nykj\u00e6r Olsen<\/strong> is a graduate\u00a0student\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0University of Greenland,\u00a0she is a native greenlander from Qaanaaq, Greenland and taking one semester at the University of Akureyri in Polar Law. She\u00a0is a active member of Global Indigenous Youth Caucus in the United\u00a0Nations\u00a0and is a former Chairman of the political active student organization ILI ILI\n

        and\u00a0<\/span>Winner of Arctic Innovation Lab, Arctic Circle Assembly Iceland 2017.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
