Instead of creating a bright future together with his family, Jussi is being harassed by the right-wing, anti-Communist Lapua Movement. He gets abducted from his home in the middle of the night and is taken to the eastern border to be killed by the nationalists but manages to escape to the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n<p>In the Soviet Union, Jussi gets a new identity, a job at a collective farm and even a new wife. Together with American immigrants who have voluntarily arrived in the Soviet Republic of Karelia, he takes part in building a worker\u2019s paradise. Stalin\u2019s Secret Police however begins to harass and purge the Finnish immigrants.
