Efter flere \u00e5rs bos\u00e6ttelse i USA, vender Jussi Ketola hjem til Finland. Han dr\u00f8mmer om en lys fremtid for sin familie, men bliver b\u00e5de chikaneret af antikommunistiske Finlands nationalister, Lapua bev\u00e6gelsen. Da nationalisterne kidnapper ham midt om natten og fors\u00f8ger at dr\u00e6be ham, lykkes det Jussi at krydse gr\u00e6nsen til Sovjetunionen.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e5 den anden side af gr\u00e6nsen f\u00e5r Jussi en ny identitet, et arbejde p\u00e5 et kollektivbrug, og en ny kone. Sammen med engagerede amerikanske indvandrere er Jussi med til at bygge det kommunistiske arbejders paradis. Livet ligner dog mere verdens undergang for Jussi.
