Masterclass – Olivier Assayas

14:00

Reykjavik International Film Festival is proud to present Olivier Assayas as one of RIFF’s honorary guests in 2017. Assayas was awarded as Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival last year (2016) and has for many years been one of the most prominent film makers in France, making dozens of films that have received various awards and nominations. Assayas became famous in the 90s after his film, Irma Vep , premiered but the film is a multidimensional art work and the director’s ode to film city Hong Kong. Assayas has since enjoyed great success with films such as Les Destinées sentimentales (2000), Demonlover(2002) and Clean (2004), all of which have been nominated for the Palm d’Or at Cannes.

Assayas is one of the 22 directors who participated in Paris, you t’aime (2006) and he has also directed the TV series Carlos , about the life and work of terrorist Carlos The Jackal. The series was popular with both audiences and critics. Assayas’ last three movies, Ace Maria(2012), Sils Maria (2014) and Personal Shopper (2016) have all received various acknowledgments, and the last one landed him the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival.

This year we have three of Assayas’ films in our program; Clouds of Sils MariaDisorder og Irma Vep. Assayas will also host a masterclass in the Nordic House on Saturday 7th October at 2PM. The masterclass is an open event but seats are limited.
